The Kitschy Cake Trend We Think is Here to Stay

We have been doing a LOT of vintage cakes this summer season.  Call this design-style what you will – Lambeth method, vintage piping or just plain old-fashioned – the popularity of classically-piped celebration cakes proves the adage that, “what goes around, comes around”.

Previously relegated to banquet hall banality, vintage cake design has had a resurgence in recent years due in great part because of it’s nod to tradition, precision craftsmanship and let’s face it –  delicious buttercream.   I mean, who doesn’t want a little extra buttercream on their slice of cake? And although we also love creating fondant-covered cakes, let’s face it:  Given the choice between fondant and buttercream, everyone we spoke with agreed that buttercream reigns supreme in terms of both taste and texture.
